Chocolate Banana Cake Recipe

This cake is the best recipe for ripe bananas that I have ever found.

Chocolate Banana Cake
Chocolate banana cake is one of the many cakes in cooking that if you hadn’t tried the two together you would think they wouldn’t work together.
But surprisingly Banana Chocolate cake is the best use of ripe bananas right behind banana bread. That and just with the unsweetened cocoa powder adding a nice accent to the banana flavor. It works really well making a nice decadent dessert with a few small additions, now lets get into those.
Possible additions to the chocolate banana cake recipe
Chocolate banana cake already sounds great to the taste buds but, by itself the cake is a great base for a number of small additions. Here is a few.
Chocolate chips
This one is a great addition to the cake, adding in half a cup of mini chocolate chips really add in that extra flavor boost the cake needs to stand on its own without any topping.
Coffee
This cake recipe works very well with coffee, to add it to the recipe add in 1/2 a cup of warm coffee.
Cream Cheese Frosting
Some cream cheese frosting on top of the cake would make this great cake even better.

Chocolate frosting on a chocolate cake, it isn’t to hard to imagine why it is one of the great delicious desserts.
Why use Baking soda and Baking powder?
The more I learn about baking powder and baking soda, I find it easier and better to use them due to the large pool of ingredients I can use to add in extra flavor with almost no downside.

Ingredient Notes and recipe substitutions
All purpose flour can be swapped for a gluten free option like rice flour or flour like almond flour. But You have to make sure to have enough eggs in the recipe.
Also for the milk you can substitute almond milk or another milk substitute.
For no eggs in the recipe add two bananas to replace the two eggs in the recipe. This will change the recipe to taste much more like banana bread, bit it will still taste great.
Ingredients for Chocolate Banana Cake
Dry Ingredients
1 3/4 cups of all purpose flour
3/4 cup of brown sugar
3/4 of a cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda
- Wet Ingredients
2 eggs
1/2 cup of softened salted butter (67 grams)
1/2 cup of milk
1 cup of water
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
1 cup of mashed bananas (2-3 ripe bananas mashed)
Chocolate Banana Cake Directions
Before we start lets thoroughly grease or using baking spray on an ovenware dish and preheat oven to 400 degrees f.
Now lets start with the dry ingredients adding them into a medium sized mixing bowl, starting with the 1 3/4 cups of flour.

Now add the 3/4 cups of brown sugar to the mixing bowl.

Now the 3/4 of a cup of unsweetened cocoa powder.

Now the 1 and a 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda.

Now use a whisk to mix the dry ingredients together thoroughly.

Now we start on the wet ingredients, lets start by adding them to a stand mixer so there is less cleaning up when we are done. Now add 2 eggs to the stand mixer.

Next we will add the 1.2 cups of milk to the mixer.

Now the 2 teaspoons of Vanilla extract.

Next is 1 cup of water.

Add 1 cup of mashed ripe Bananas. I find it is best to use a potato masher to mash up the overripe bananas making it a quick and easy process.

1/2 cups of melted butter

Now we turn on the mixer to low to keep splashing down and grab our mixing bowl of dry ingredients.

Pour the flour mixture into the mixer and turn in on low to try and keep the dry ingredients in the mixer. Have a spatula nearby to clean off the sides of the mixer so almost all of the dry and wet get mixed.

With the mixed ingredients bring over the prepared pan and start pouring the cake batter evenly into the ovenware.

After the cake batter has been poured, place the in the oven for 40 minutes or until a toothpick or knife comes out clean.

Don’t worry if the cake cracks with numerous cracks, that is fine. wait until the cake cool completely to room temperature before serving.

This is a great recipe because it is a great base for so many ideas.

While I made a simple version with only the base ingredients, any of the possible additions add just that much more flavor and charm to this great recipe.
