This easy spinach dip is only 5 ingredients, and is a great appetizer to bring to any party. Especially when people see it in a sourdough bread bowl, they can’t leave it alone!

This spinach dip disappears fast!

Is spinach dip hard to make?

This spinach dip recipe is quick and easy, the longest part of the process is defrosting and drying the spinach. After that it is all about adding everything in a bowl and mixing it.

Even if you choose to have a sourdough bread bowl that only takes a moment to prepare at most and adds a great flavor to the mix.

How long can you leave the dip out at a party?

The ingredients in this spinach dip will be perfectly fine for 2 hours, but after that it get’s into the unsafe territory.

The mayonnaise should be fine as long as the room isn’t hot for few hours.

The sour cream is the one we should worry about. Being a milk base product it can spoil just the same so one hour when left out in normal room temperature. At two it should be fine, but after that it is getting into unsafe territory.

One option is to add a plate under the bowl and surround it with ice, dropping the temperature of the dip and keeping it safe for a while longer.

If you use the sourdough as the bowl then just put a large plate under the bread with a number of ice and it should be fine. Be careful as the ice melts it might toss the spinach dip!

Can you make spinach dip in advance?

Yeah! Make the recipe according to instructions, the dip will be perfectly fine to eat for three days, if left in the refrigerator.

It is best to make it the night before though, then the dry ingredients permeate through the dip adding in a delicious flavor.

Will lactose free sour cream work as well?

Having tried it with both types of sour cream, I can’t tell the difference. Both made delicious and creamy spinach dip.

Can I use fresh instead of frozen spinach in dip?

Unfortunately it’s a texture thing. Frozen spinach is already cooked and softer than fresh spinach.

While you can use it I suggest you cook it for 3-4 minutes to soften it up, it also makes it easier to cut.

What type of mayonnaise to use in spinach dip?

I use mainly use normal mayonnaise and it works wonderfully. But I have been using olive oil mayonnaise in a few of them recently and they add a slightly creamier taste to the mixture.

What is spinach dips good with?

My favorite to eat it with is sourdough bread, which runs out very quickly. Then tortilla chips which add a nice crunch.

Another option is to prepare some broccoli, cucumber, cauliflower or carrots to make for some great dippers as well.

Can you freeze spinach dip?

Yeah absolutely! This dip is perfect to make a quick meal prep or to save yummy leftovers. This spinach dip will remain in sealed containers or in freezer containers between 1-3 days. When ready to eat, let the dip cool in the refrigerator overnight, then let it cool in the kitchen for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Ingredients

  • 500ml of frozen spinach

  • 1 cup of mayonnaise

  • 1 pack of Knorr’s vegetable soup mix (40ml)

  • 1 full container of sour cream (450ml)

  • 1 teaspoons of onion powder (believe me it’s good)

  • 1 full round of sourdough bread (optional)

Directions

Soak both packages of frozen spinach in warm water to defrost and dice up into small pieces. Or you can buy pre cut spinach and save some time on this step as well.

Now get a medium sized bowl and start adding ingredients.

First we add the mayonnaise.

Then the sour cream.

Now the onion powder.

Also the soup mix to add in even more flavor.

Mix it all together and it is ready to serve.

Using a Sourdough Bread Bowl

If you have a sourdough round, hollow out most of the bread through the top with a serrated knife. If not a medium sized bowl with a dedicated lid does the trick quite well.

This makes such a good bowl for the spinach dip that when I leave it out in front of my family I am lucky to get some!

Dipping options

I talked about some of the possible choices like sourdough bread. It makes a great bowl and you get a number of excellently flavor dippers as well, making for a great start for the dip.

Also after people get a taste of the dip and the sourdough dippers are gone people are fine eating it with vegetables. This is a great helper for those people who don’t eat enough vegetables.

Also it just looks nice and clean after everything is done!

Everything is ready at the drop of a hat.

If there are any leftovers

If there is any of the dip leftover (which is rare!) I find that the dip makes for a great addition to my meals for the next few days adding them into my meals as a sauce.

Burgers adding a spoonful of this on top of my burger maxes for a great and easy way to add some creaminess to my meal!

Another one is deli sandwiches, just a small layer on top of the meat adds a great extra mix of creaminess to the sandwich.
