This homemade whipped cream recipe is delicious
Since the recipe is so quick and easy I make it when we have a bit of extra whipping cream left over in the fridge. The problem is I usually have to make a bigger batch quickly just do to how many people want some!
What Cream is best for whipped cream?
While whipping cream is best for this recipe, you can substitute heavy cream for it in a pinch.
Can you make heavy whipping cream at home?
Yes you can, but it is best to get the real thing when you can, because it won’t be able to make the stiff peaks real whipping cream makes.
You can make it with 1/4 cup off melted butter and 3/4 cup of half and half or whole milk. Slowly mix them together with a whisk and it should substitute well enough in a pinch.
What is the difference between heavy cream and whipping cream
It was confusing to me as well, I thought they were the same thing! But heavy cream has about 36 to 40% fat, while whipping cream usually has about 30 to 36% fat content.
So it isn’t surprising that people mix them up! Especially when some labels say heavy whipping cream.
How long does Whipped Cream last after I make it?
Whipped cream only last for 3 days in the refrigerator, but you can freeze it in air tight plastic bags for up to two months.
How much Whipped Cream does this recipe make?
For every cup of whipped cream you use, you get twice as much whipped cream.
Flavored whipped cream options
Before we get into the recipe, there are a number of ways to flavor whipped cream, here are a few of my favorites.
Adding 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder to the whipped cream gives the whipped cream a nice subtle chocolatey flavor that goes great on dessert style baked goods.
Adding 1 teaspoon of maple syrup into the mixing bowl before whipping the cream makes for a great breakfast flavored topping onto pancakes or waffles.
Also try 1 teaspoon of brown sugar in the mix as well with all the base ingredients, it adds a nice texture to the whipped cream that adds a nice flavor.
Before we start the recipe
Whipping cream is a very quick recipe, it will take about 3 minutes of mixing.
Don’t be afraid to stop the mix for a short time and test a bit of the mixture, it should have a medium firm texture when it is done.
I have added in pictures to help know when the whipping cream is done. Also the whipping cream will give the best results when it is cold for the whole recipe to work properly.
If you want to increase the time you have, chill the whisk and bowl in the fridge for 10 minutes to give you more time to work if you get distracted.
Whipping Cream Ingredients
1 cup of cold whipping cream
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 tablespoons of icing sugar or confectioners’ sugar
Whipping Cream Recipe
Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment. Pour the whipping cream, vanilla and powdered sugar into a mixing bowl and set the machine on medium.
It will look like this half way through mixing.

This is when it hasn’t fully taken shape and still needs some more time.
Be careful not to over mix the recipe it will look like this when it is done.

You want a firmer texture to the whipping cream with a structure to it. You can tell it is done when you pull out the whisk and the whipping cream has stiff peaks across it.
What If I whipped the Cream to long?
Thankfully it can be saved by adding some more whipped cream to the mixture. Just make sure your bowl is big enough to handle two times that amount of cream.
What should I serve Whipped Cream with?
Anything that could use a little bit of delicious creamy texture. It goes really good on pumpkin pies for sure, just like this recipe I have. Cakes are a great option as well with a side of ice cream making it absolutely delicious!

Another option is on drinks as well.

Hot chocolate with whipped cream is a favorite at all times of the year.
